Chapter 12.24. TREES AND SHRUBS |
Article I. Cutting and Trimming of Trees |
§ 12.24.025. Cutting or trimming by the village.
The department of public works will generally trim trees located on property under the jurisdiction of the village to promote public safety or for the health of the tree. The department may trim or remove trees that impair visibility to motorists or pedestrians, impede snow removal, threaten utility lines or otherwise negatively affect the public health, safety and welfare. The department will typically remove a tree only when the tree is at least seventy-five percent dead. The foregoing general policy to the contrary notwithstanding, the department may remove any tree from property under the jurisdiction of the village for any reason deemed appropriate by the department. The department will as a matter of policy attempt to notify the owner or owners of properties adjoining any tree subject to trimming or removal at least twenty-four hours in advance of such activity. However, failure to provide such notification shall not preclude the department from proceeding with such activity. The department will not necessarily remove the stump of trees which have been removed.
