§ 15.40.184. Stairways, porches and railings.

  • All exterior stairs, porches and any appurtenance thereto shall be adequately safe and shall be capable of supporting the load that normal use may cause to be placed thereon. All stairways, porches and any appurtenance shall be kept in sound and safe condition. Where the director of village inspections or his agent deems it necessary for safety, every flight of stairs, which is more than three risers high, shall have handrails which shall be located as required by the building code, and every porch which is more than three risers high shall have handrails so located and of such design as required by the village building code. Every handrail and balustrade shall be firmly fastened and shall be maintained in sound condition.
