§ 6.20.040. Redemption of impounded animals.
A.
The owner of any impounded animal may redeem the animal within the minimum period before disposal by paying the costs incurred during the impoundment, and the costs of any necessary license if the animal was unlicensed, and if the impounded animal is a dog, the cost of an inoculation against rabies if the owner cannot prove the dog has been properly inoculated as provided for in Section 6.16.010.
B.
If the owner does not redeem the animal within the minimum period before disposal, then any person may redeem it by paying the costs set out in subsection A of this section.
C.
If the animal is not redeemed as set forth in this section, it shall be destroyed in a humane manner, and any unpaid costs incurred by a licensed veterinarian or animal shelter in compliance with this chapter shall be paid by the village to the veterinarian or shelter in an amount not to exceed fifteen dollars upon receipt by the village of an itemized bill setting forth those costs.
